Notch Cask Series – #1: Dark Mild

May kicks off Notch’s cask only series, where a one-off batch is brewed for cask only. May is also CAMRA’s Mild Month, and while this is a British thing, Notch will be participating stateside by releasing the Notch Dark Mild. This is something I’ve wanted to brew for a while, but would never release in keg or bottle, as the subtle flavors would get lost. The finest example of British session ale is found cask-conditioned, and a Mild certainly shines on cask. The natural carbonation creates a smooth mouth-feel, while cellar temperature brings out all of the subtle complexity of session ale. Look for news on the first tapping of the Notch Dark Mild soon.

On Monday May 2nd, I’ll tap another version of a Mild at Deep Ellum. It’s a cask I’ve been holding onto for a bit, and it’s not the English Dark Mild, but another version of Mild from further up North (British Isles North). So stop on by around 6PM as we tap this mystery Notch cask and begin the Mild Month celebration.

Then after Monday, start looking for the Notch Dark Mild around town. We’ll alert the masses with cask tappings alerts on Facebook and Twitter.
